On the 12th of October during the event "Your Vote is important for the Future of the European Union" the YourVoteMatters.eu platform was presented to the Polish public. The event consisted of two parts. First was committed to the wider discussion about European community and engaging voters. Second was focused on the YourVoteMatters platform.
In the panel “How to engage citizens in the elections to the European Parliament?” experts on European Union took part: Dr Kerry Longhurst form Collegium Civitas, Prof. Agnieszka Cianciara from the Institute of Political Studies Polish Academy of Science, Jan Jakub Chromiec from ideaForum of Stefan Batory Foundation and Magdalena Wnuk from MamPrawoWiedziec.pl (the Polish platform providing citizens information about persons performing public functions). The invited speakers discussed the direction in which the European community is going in regard to history and plans for future. Speakers talked also about the upcoming elections to the European Parliament and ways to activate voters. The main issue was how to talk about EU policy in the context of current events and how to engage the widest possible voters. They agreed that technocratic language of benefits that gives us membership in the EU loses in comparison with the emotional statements of the opponents of the European community.
The Yourvotematters.eu platform was presented by Priscilla Robledo from Riparte il futuro and dr Marek Troszyński from Collegium Civitas. They explained its main idea, mission and practical usability.
The launch event was a part of the wider two-day event “World in Focus. Warsaw International Gathering”, where famous publicists, scientists, and NGO activists meet annually to talk about Poland, Europe and the world. It gave a great opportunity to present the platform to the wide audience and reach people that are interested in the matters of European Union. Participants of the Warsaw International Gathering had possibility to get acquainted with YourVoteMatters.eu portal during the whole event in the specially prepared digital kiosks.
